DuPage County Veterans Assistance Commission met April 20.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

Meeting called to order at 1900 hours at DuPage County Complex by Mayor with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor followed by a moment of silence for those departed and those who might be in harm's way.

Roll Call:

Bruce Mayor, Don Sender, Rich Greenwald, Del Miller, Alan Mendelssohn, Frank Trout, Mike Barbour, and John Schmitt. A quorum was present.

Alternates in attendance: Joseph Craig, and Lisa Mattingly

VAC staff: Steve Fixler, Bill Brophy, Bernadette Wawczak

Guests: None

President's Opening Remarks: I went to Bill Barta’s visitation last week. Steve and Joe were there. The funeral was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. It was very moving. There were twelve Marine Corps League representatives there. There were thirty cars in our convoy from the funeral home to the cemetery. I was there as President of the VAC and Department Commander of the JWV.

After discussion, it was moved by Miller and seconded by Mendelssohn that the Treasurer's report be accepted subject to audit. M/C.

Secretary:

Minutes were read. It was moved by Mendelssohn and seconded by Trout to approve the minutes as read. M/C.

Superintendent:

- Budget Status: Budgeted 37.2% Spent 28.1% Under 9.1%

- Budget-Balances attached

- AL Post #76 Auxiliary, Veteran’s Suicide Prevention Presentation

- Veteran’s Appreciation Day, May 7

- NDSWM Night, Chicago Wolves Game, Apr 3, 3pm

Motion was made by Miller and seconded by Mendelssohn to accept Superintendent's report. M/C.

Good of the Commission:

- American Legion Post #76 Auxiliary is hosting a Veteran’s Suicide Prevention Presentation at the Post, Thursday, April 21, 1830 – 2000.

- Veteran Appreciation Event – Greg Hart – Saturday, May 7, 8am – 10am, Warrenville. Public Comments and Concerns: N/A

Executive Session: N/A

Old Business:

- HB5184 – Military Veterans Assistance Act (MVAA), passed by the Illinois House and the Senate and is waiting for the Governor to sign it. Office will work on implementing the new changes to the Act.

- IGA – Will review it and see if there are any needed changes based on the changes to the MVAA.

New Business:

- The VAC will participate in the Wheaton Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May, 30 - The VAC Executive Board approved the following changes to our Operating Procedures:

Motion to remove the six-month minimum active-duty time requirement. M – Mendelssohn, S – Greenwald, Roll Call Vote – Sender – Aye, Greenwald – Aye, Mendelssohn – Aye, Miller – Nay, Barbour – Aye, Trout – Aye, Schmitt – Aye. M/C

Motion to allow the VAC President to approve payments over $2000.00 without Board approval under emergency conditions. M – Miller, S – Greenwald. M/C

- Approved $233.87 for Client #236412. Client’s total of $2473.76. M – Mendelssohn, S – Miller. M/C

- Approve Superintendent to attend the IACO/IACVAC Conference, Springfield, IL, May 12, 2022. Travel included. M – Miller, Greenwald – S. M/C
