Shawna Armstrong Named Assistant Athletic Director

24

Elmhurst University Director of Athletics Glen Brittich has announced the addition of Shawna Armstrong to the Bluejays' staff as Assistant Director of Athletics.

"Shawna identified herself as outstanding candidate through our extensive search process," said Brittich. "She has experience in Division III both as a student-athlete and as an administrator. I think she has a bright future ahead and we're excited to have her joining our staff. She's going to be a great addition to our campus."

Armstrong joins the Bluejays after spending the past 10 years as the Senior Athletic Recruiting Liaison and Admission Counselor at Aurora University. At Aurora, Armstrong worked to develop the role of Athletic Liaison and was responsible for recruiting an application territory and working specifically with the recruitment of student-athletes. She coordinated all campus visits for the athletic teams.

"Elmhurst has always been an institution that has always stood out to me as a premier academic and athletic destination." said Armstrong. "As a former CCIW student athlete, I've always known those I've competed alongside to be just great individuals, and outstanding student*athletes, involved in so much during their time at Elmhurst and beyond. Bluejays stand out as individuals that do the right thing, are competitive and ready to take on whatever challenges they face. It was very clear to me, from every individual I met throughout the search process, that they all echoed the same thing. Elmhurst is a great place to be with wonderful administrators, faculty, staff, campus partners and our students are second to none."

Armstrong is no stranger to the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) after attending earning her bachelor's degree from North Central College and competing as a student-athlete on the women's golf team. She also served as a Graduate Assistant/Recruiting Coordinator for men's and women's tennis and women's golf teams at North Central from 2009-11 while earning her master's degree.

Armstrong spent a year at Lewis University working as a freshman admission counselor from 2011-12 before joining Aurora's staff.

Armstrong is looking forward to working closely with Elmhurst student-athletes.

"During my time as the Senior Athletic Recruiting Liaison at Aurora, I get to know students for a brief snapshot in their admissions and recruiting process, and I did my best to keep in touch with them through their time at Aurora," said Armstrong. "Now, having an opportunity to not only dig into supporting them through work with compliance and development, but to really get to support my coaching staff individually is something I'm very excited about. I'm thrilled to be joining a veteran group of coaches and getting to work alongside Glen Brittich. I'd like to thank President Troy VanAken, Dr. Phil Riordan, Glen Brittich and the members of the search committee for this opportunity. I am eager to get to work to provide an outstanding experience for our student-athletes and to continue building a tradition of student-athlete success."

Armstrong resides in Batavia with her husband, Ryan and their children Harper and Brooks.
