6. DISCUSSION

A. Planning for the DuPage Community Arts Festival

Chair LaPlante expressed that she is proud of the tough decision that was made in 2021 to not hold the DuPage Community Arts Festival due to rising Covid-19 cases. She thanked the DuPage County Health Department, Karen Ayala, and Christopher Hoff for their guidance in that decision.

Chair LaPlante announced that the 2022 DuPage Community Arts Festival is scheduled for May 27th and May 28th at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. Jim McGuire with the DuPage County Fairgrounds stated that the Fair Association has put in place a proof of vaccination requirement for everyone five years old and older, a photo ID for all attendees ages sixteen and older, and that all individuals will be required to wear a mask indoors ages two and older. Mr. McGuire said that this will be true for all events on the fairgrounds that will be occurring in 2022, effective February 14th, 2022. Chair LaPlante thanked Mr. McGuire for this update and emphasized that the health and safety of all guests attending is a priority.

Chair LaPlante expressed gratitude for the support from our sponsors Choose DuPage, WDCB, DuPage Foundation, Mesirow Financial, Wheaton Bank and Trust, Christopher Burke Engineering, and Macklin. To secure more donors, Chair LaPlante asked that each Committee member solicits one donation from their district for this event, in an effort to involve everyone in the community. Member Selmon requested that Chair LaPlante provides another document with all of the sponsors and marketing information.

Chair LaPlante offered an overview of what the schedule will be at this event. The VIP event will be on Friday night (May 27th) to thank our sponsors and donors, and this night is sponsored by Choose DuPage. The following day, Saturday (May 28th), the doors will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 11:00 p.m. She encouraged everyone to attend and experience many musical and visual artists. Tickets can be purchased online, or at the door for this event. An adult ticket is $20 if purchased in advance, and $25 if purchased at the door. A ticket for a child is $10 if purchased in advance, and $12 if purchased at the door. A family ticket is $50 if purchased in advance, or $60 if purchased at the door. All children under three years old can attend for free.

Chair LaPlante discussed what each Committee member could do to support the event and delegated specific opportunities for each member.

7. OLD BUSINESS

Member Selmon let Mr. McGuire know that she will collaborate with him to provide food trucks for this event. Mr. McGuire mentioned that some vendors have expressed interest in being a part of this event. Member Deacon Garcia also requested a document with a list of sponsors and marketing information.

8. NEW BUSINESS

Member Deacon Garcia made a suggestion that the Committee requests a donation from the County to help struggling artists to go before the County Board. Chief Administrative Officer Nick Kottmeyer responded to Member Deacon Garcia, and he advised that a request like this would need to be specific and go before the Finance Committee first in order to go to the County Board. Member Selmon added that if Member Deacon Garcia has a request that would go beyond the scope of an Ad Hoc Committee, she suggests that Member Deacon Garcia speak to the Chairman. Chair LaPlante said that it is the Committee's focus to highlight the Arts in DuPage County, and that a great way to do this is by raising the visibility of arts, and that there will continue to be discussion on long range and short range plans to support artists.

Member Deacon Garcia inquired how the Fairgrounds would be able to have the early voting event at the same time as the DuPage Community Arts Festival. Mr. McGuire said that the early voting event will happen at the South end of the Fairgrounds, and the Festival will be held at the North end of the Fairgrounds. He assured that there will be plenty of room to accommodate both events.
