Youth quick recall tested at state dairy contest

4-H members had their knowledge and quick recall of information tested at the Illinois 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl contest on Feb. 26 at the Chateau Hotel and Conference Center in Bloomington.  Fifty 4-H members from 10 counties throughout Illinois came together to participate in this statewide contest.

This contest requires many hours of dedicated learning by participating youth and a good understanding of the dairy industry. Each competition round includes 12 questions presented one-on-one followed by 16 toss-up questions with bonus point options. The questions focus on information relating to the various aspects of dairy cattle management and dairy products. 

Youth 14 years and older compete as part of the Senior Division with youth under 13 compete in the Junior Division. 

In the Junior Division, the winning team included members: Drew Lueking, Clinton County; Garret Beal, Clinton County; Kasey Clanton, Bond County; and Kenzie Krause, Clinton County.

In the Senior Division the top two teams included team members Shana Lueking, Clinton County; Lars Carlson, Boone County; Justin Irwin, Boone County; and Allyson Aves, Boone County.

The following youth have been asked to represent the state of Illinois in the National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Contest in Louisville, Kentucky in November: Justin Irwin and Lars Carlson of Boone County along with Delana Erbsen and Nevin Erbsen of Carroll County, and Ben Bremmer of Stephenson County.
