amendment to extension of pupil transportation services agreement for one year at an increase of 11.8%. We contract with First Student, Inc. for regular education transportation services. While driver shortages have created challenges this year, overall, we believe the level of service that First Student provides is better than its competitors.
We belong to a transportation cooperative with Marquardt School District 15, Queen Bee School District 16 and Glen Ellyn School District 41. Community Consolidated School District 93 is also joining our cooperative for the renewal and it is possible that we may see an additional sender district join at some point later in the year. The cooperative provides First Student the ability to run double and triple routes for our member districts, which allows First Student to leverage capital and labor, providing reduced costs. All member districts intend to renew their contracts with First Student under the same terms. The annual increase for each member district is 11.8%. Three percent of this increase accounts for moving the hourly guarantee per day from 4 hours to 5 hours. We believe this shift should help to recruit and retain employees.
- amendment to extension of special education in-district and out-of-district transportation services agreement. We contract with First Student, Inc. – formerly Hopewell, LLC – as our special education transportation provider. Hopewell, LLC was acquired by First Student. When we originally bid these contracts, we bid an in-district transportation requirement and an out-of-district transportation requirement. We have been pleased with the level of service that First Student/ Hopewell provides. We are in our final year of these contracts and would like to renew these contracts for one additional year.
We are part of a transportation cooperative with our special education cooperative, C.A.S.E. We jointly bid this contract six years ago. Members of the cooperative are Marquardt School District 15, Queen Bee School District 16; Glen Ellyn School District 41; Lombard School District 44; Community Consolidated School District 89 and Community Consolidated School District 93. The cooperative provides Hopewell the ability to leverage facilities, assets and staff. This translates to lower costs for our school districts. All member districts intend to renew their contracts with Hopewell under similar terms. The annual increase for each member district is 6.8%.

maintenance contract – boilers. We have significant investment in our mechanical equipment in the past few years. Specifically, we purchased and installed new Lochinvar boilers to provide heating to our buildings.
We have implemented a maintenance plan that will prolong equipment life, deliver maximum energy savings, provide a comfortable learning environment for staff and students and lower operating costs.
We have maintenance contracts with Westside Mechanical Group for our boilers that provide annual and ongoing maintenance services for all building boilers, throughout the district.
Each of our buildings have four boilers, along with an additional two boilers at Glenbard West’s Biester Gym. The annual cost for Glenbard East, Glenbard North and Glenbard South is $11,487 per building. Glenbard West annual cost, including Biester Gym, is $17,231. The total district cost for boiler maintenance is $51,692. This is an annual maintenance agreement with auto-renewal provisions at Consumer Price Index-Urban, or 5 percent, whichever is less. This year’s increase is 5 percent.
maintenance contract – chillers/cooling towers. We made significant investment in our mechanical equipment in the past few years. Specifically, we have purchased and installed new Carrier chillers and Tower Tech cooling towers to provide cooling to our buildings.

athletic trainer contract. We use Athletico to provide athletic training services for our athletic programs. Our assistant principals for athletics have been very satisfied with their services.
Based on service levels, reasonable cost and endorsement from our APAs, we propose to contract with Athletico for a one-year extension at a 4% increase. The 4% is the capped amount per the terms of the agreement. No changes were made to the agreement other than the cost increase. The new hourly rate would be $21.08. The total contract cost is $249,242.46 for 2022-23.
We contract for two trainers each at Glenbard West, Glenbard South and Glenbard North, with one trainer at Glenbard East. East has one employee staff member who is a certified trainer who provides this function. Additionally, Glenbard West has one employee staff member who is a certified trainer that provides this function during the fall and spring seasons. Therefore, all of our schools have at least two trainers on hand to support our programs.
