Due to the e-Learning Day on February 17, the Volunteer of the Month award presentation for February was postponed to March 17, 2022.

Volunteer of the Month: February 2022

Bridget McKernan has volunteered extensively at May Watts Elementary for the past several years. Because of her unwavering commitment to our students and schools, she has been named the BMO Harris Bank District 204 Volunteer of the Month for February 2022.

Bridget has three children, a third grader at May Watts Elementary, a seventh grader at Hill Middle School, and a senior at Metea Valley High School. She is fortunate to be a stay-at-home parent which has given her the opportunity to donate her time to support the wonderful experiences that May Watts and District 204 offer to students and families. Bridget has been involved in the District 204 Boundary Committee, the Indian Prairie Parents Council winter coat and snack drives, hosted a pop-up shop for Metea Valley Boosters, held many different positions on the PTA Executive Board, coordinated a variety of fundraisers, volunteered as a room parent and worked in the LMC, co-chaired the Fifth Grade Farewell and annual Veterans Day events, instituted a teacher grant process at May Watts and Hill, and she even found time to work as a lunchroom supervisor.

Principal Brian LeCrone stated, “Bridget McKernan is a volunteer in the truest sense of the word. She has devoted countless hours of her time across several different roles to make the school experience better for all May Watts students. Bridget has served on the PTA Executive Board and has been the May Watts representative on the Indian Prairie Parents Council for years. She has been instrumental in developing a valuable Veteran’s Day program for our students and even stepped in last spring as a recess supervisor to ensure that we had enough supervision so that students could go outside for recess. Her dedication to the school community is truly appreciated!”

Bridget volunteers because she feels it is important to give back to her community in any way she is able. She says, “When we are personally invested in our neighbors, we can create a nurtured village with many successes.”

BMO Harris Bank is helping District 204 recognize one volunteer each month who has generously given his or her time to support District 204’s students and schools. To celebrate these outstanding volunteers, BMO Harris Bank is donating $1,000 to the volunteer’s school. To nominate an outstanding volunteer, visit Volunteer of the Month.

Volunteer of the Month: March 2022

Melissa Wunderlich has been an amazing volunteer at Scullen Middle School. Because of her support as an LMC volunteer and promoting kindness within the school, she is being named the BMO Harris Bank District 204 Volunteer of the Month for March 2022.

Melissa has three children, a seventh grader at Scullen Middle School, and a freshman and senior at Waubonsie Valley High School. When she moved within the district six years ago, Melissa became a stay-at-home mother. She is a weekly volunteer at the Scullen LMC, a monthly volunteer at the Warrior Wearhouse, and she also volunteers at the Waubonsie LMC.

Her nomination states, “She is simply amazing in every way. One project that she developed was Kindness Crafts where students create a craft, write a kind note on it, and give it to a person to make them feel special. At this time in the world, kindness needs to be passed on whenever and however possible!”

Melissa says she volunteers because she loves to watch the kids enjoying creating, reading, and socializing with one another. She believes in supporting the school staff as they work hard.
