Takeaway from GPS webinar re: power of everyday interactions
On March 1, the Glenbard Parent Series hosted Junlei Li and Dana Winters of the Fred Rogers Center in a program titled Children's Resilience: The Power of Everyday Interactions. Click here for a recording of the program.
Leah Harding, executive director of the Glen Ellyn Children's Resource Center, gave remarks following the event and shared the following takeaway: "Tonight's talk validated the tremendous impact of small moments in everyday interactions. By just being present, rather than trying to be perfect, parents and educators can build positive relationships. Everything does not have to be perfect in order to be effective. No moment is too simple for a connection to happen. Human relationships are built on ordinary connections over time. These intentional small moments are the foundation of and a promise for future positive interactions."
Therapist shares takeaway from teen relationships webinar
On Feb. 17, the B-PAC Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee and Glenbard Parent Series-Spanish hosted YWCA educator Ana Mandujano for Teen Relationships Today. Click here for a recording of the webinar in Spanish.
Sarah Bruno, bilingual therapist with the Glen Ellyn Youth and Family Counseling Service, attended and shared the following takeaway: "Parents are the single largest influence on their adolescents’ decisions about relationships and healthy habits, and parents underestimate the impact they have on their (kid's) decisions. For most parents and their children, the prospect of talking about challenging topics creates anxiety and apprehension, and this could lead to avoidance of these important discussions. Research shows that parents who talk openly and often to their children have more influence on their behavior. Get educated, encourage your teen to ask you questions, and be prepared to offer honest answers. Also, listen. This will help keep the door open.”
