Illinois Lieutenant Governor candidate Stephanie Trussell said Americans who watched President Joe Biden's State of the Union Address and Donald Trump's keynote speech at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last weekend "got a reminder of why our country needs Trump's America First agenda back."

"Biden's State of the Union Address was weak and apologetic. It was about how Biden puts America and Americans last," said Trussell, running mate of Republican Darren Bailey, a State Senator, farmer and small business owner from Clay County. "President Trump's phenomenal speech at CPAC was quite the contrast. Anyone who watched them both got a reminder of why our country needs Trump's America First agenda back."

Trussell, a former WLS talk radio host from Lisle, said Biden is on a quest to undo all of Trump's accomplishments as president.

"Under President Trump, Americans paid less for gas and utilities and food. We had energy independence and the jobs that came with it-- including here in Illinois," Trussell said. "Joe Biden has worked hard to reverse all of this and more-- to reward his radical, elite leftist supporters and to punish American working families for overwhelmingly supporting Donald Trump."

Born in Chicago, Trussell moved to DuPage County in 1994. She won a 2012 listener contest at WLS-AM 890, earning a chance to host her own two-hour talk radio show. The show was a success and ran for seven years.

Bailey selected Trussell as his running mate last December, calling her “a hardworking conservative, a fighter, a mother, a grandmother and Illinois' next lieutenant governor."

Trussell said getting her first job at McDonald's at age 14 made her a Republican.

“I learned early the value of hard work,” Trussell said. “Years later my eyes were opened to how Democratic and progressive policies that were supposed to help me were actually hurting me, making things worse.”

Other Republican lieutenant governor candidates are Kathleen Murphy (Jesse Sullivan), Aaron Del Mar (Gary Rabine), Carolyn Schofield (Paul Schimpf) and Avery Bourne (Richard Irvin).

The Republican primary for governor is on June 28.
