Fanning Surpasses 1,000 Points as Women's Hoops Rolls

Alex Fanning eclipsed the 1,000-point mark as the Benedictine University women's basketball team eased into the semifinals of the NACC Tournament with a home win over Concordia Wisconsin.

THE DETAILS

• Benedictine got off to a hot start and did not look back, scoring the first 12 points of the game

• Sara Smith extended the lead to 22-2 at the 2:58 mark of the first quarter

• Benedictine led 22-6 after the opening 10 minutes of play

• The lead reached 28 points in the first half at 39-11 on a jumper from Britney Pitzer with 3:05 left in the half and Benedictine led 39-16 at the break

• The advantage continued to increase in the third quarter as a layup from Claire Gibler pushed the lead to 61-23 after three

• Brilan McCory tallied six consecutive points early in the fourth, converting consecutive breakaway layups after steals

• Fanning scored the 1,000th point of her career with a layup at the 7:34 mark of the second quarter

STAT LEADERS

• McCory finished with 25 points, logging seven rebounds to go with five steals

• Gibler finished with 14 points and nine boards

• Fanning netted 11 points with seven rebounds, three blocks and three assists

• Benedictine held a 51-37 edge on the glass and scored 27 points off turnovers

Benedictine (17-9) plays at St. Norbert on Friday night in the semifinals at 7:00 pm.
