CCSD93 strives to maximize the academic, social & emotional potential of each student.

Dear Friend of CCSD93,

Messages From
Superintendent Hill:

As you know, each year in December we check the pulse of our parents, students and staff members with CCSD93’s Satisfaction Survey. Respondents answer questions and provide 10-scale ratings across a wide range of categories encompassed in the educational experience. The resulting data is examined district-wide and at the school level and compared with previous years to measure successes and guide improvement. This helps us understand what is working well within the district and better target where to focus efforts for improvement to provide the very best education to the children of our community.

I'll highlight the results of the 2021-22 Satisfaction Survey here over the next few weeks. Today I begin with our elementary students. All students in grades 3-5 are given the survey (the questions are a bit too sophisticated for our K-2 population). Our young learners usually provide generally positive feedback, and this year was no different. As indicated in this summary image, with the exception of the School Bus score, average elementary student ratings for the key areas we track came in between "Excellent" and the higher end of "Good." With a confidence level of 99% and a margin of error of 2%, the data should very accurately reflect the feelings of our elementary school student population.

Comparing across school years, we do not see significant changes in elementary student overall attitudes in any given category between this year and last, or even between this year and two years ago when students were surveyed just prior to being impacted by the pandemic. This speaks to our young students’ resiliency and ability to overcome obstacles

Still, within responses to individual questions, we uncover strengths and areas for improvement. For example, we observe that 29% more elementary students identify as participating in clubs, sports or other activities outside of school this year than last, and 10% more acknowledge that students at their school help each other with work. While the state of the pandemic certainly impacts these answers, the gains are cause for celebration.

On the other hand, for instance, we observe that 15% more elementary students this year than last have identified that gossip is a serious problem at their school, and this is certainly an example of an opportunity for improvement.

District administrators use all of the data to inform a wide range of decisions. Principals and school Building Leadership Teams (BLTs) utilize their school's data as they develop yearly School Improvement Plans, and principals create separate action plans to spur improvement even further. Using the data to improve is exactly why we perform the Satisfaction Survey each year, and why we are grateful for each parent, student, and staff member for taking the time to give us feedback. We also acknowledge that these are average scores and do not speak for each individual student, and we continue to work to support students and families as best we can moving forward.

Find out more about the Satisfaction Survey by visiting www.ccsd93.com/satisfactionwhere you can also compare school and district-wide data across years. In the coming weeks you’ll find this year’s individual school data added to the webpage and to school websites. Next week, I’ll review middle school student data here.

Pending Court Ruling on Mitigation Strategies Not Expected to Impact CCSD93

Recently, two lawsuits were brought against approximately 145 of Illinois’ school districts challenging the Governor’s executive orders that require masks for all students, staff members and visitors as well as mandatory vaccines or COVID-19 testing for school employees. A court ruling on the matter is expected next week.

CCSD93 was not named in either lawsuit, and for this reason, we do not anticipate that the ruling will impact CCSD93 students or staff. The original executive orders requiring masks in school and mandatory vaccination or testing for school employees remain in effect for CCSD93 schools. We will continue to keep you apprised of this situation if it does affect our community.

Please review the information below for more of the latest from CCSD93, and enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Dr. David H. Hill
Superintendent of Schools
