A pair of Chicago teen suspects charged in connection with a violent West Chicago carjacking are scheduled to next appear in court on Jan. 24 for arraignment.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin and West Chicago Chief of Police Colin Fleury recently announced that Andre Turner, 19, and Tyrell Loury, 19, are now being held on $600,000 and $500,000 bond, respectively. Both are being held on charges of aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm (Class X Felony) and aggravated possession of a stolen motor vehicle (Class 1 Felony).

According to authorities, on the evening of Dec. 29, a West Chicago officer responded to a call on Alamance Drive of a vehicular hijacking, where the victim told investigators he was accosted while entering his vehicle which was parked in his home’s garage.

The victim told police one of two men wearing black masks ordered him to “give me your keys” before taking his Mercedes-Benz at gunpoint, with one of the men driving off in it and the other fleeing in a white vehicle parked in front of the home.

With the help of a Chicago Police Department helicopter, the stolen vehicle was followed as it made its way across the south side of Chicago, ultimately parking near 65th and King Drive.

According to reports, after the Mercedes-Benz parked officers spotted the two defendants fleeing the vehicle. Loury was taken into custody following a brief foot chase during which one of the suspects is accused of discarding a loaded Springfield XDM .45 caliber handgun in a dumpster.

Turner was taken into custody on Dec. 31 in Chicago.

“The swift apprehension of these two men demonstrates DuPage County law enforcement’s commitment to public safety,” Berlin added. “As I have said countless times before, if you commit the type of violent crime alleged in this case in DuPage County, you will be caught and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I commend the West Chicago Police Department for their efforts which, when combined with the power of a Chicago police helicopter, led to the quick, peaceful apprehension of the defendants in this case.”

Fleury echoed many of Berlin’s sentiments.

“I’m very proud of the West Chicago officers that worked tirelessly on this case, who along with the assistance of the Chicago Police Department and other law enforcement partners, were able to bring these dangerous individuals to justice,” he said. “I want to thank State’s Attorney Berlin and his office for filing the appropriate charges against the defendants in this case.”

If found guilty, Turner and Loury both face up to 45 years behind bars.
