Recently issued the following announcement.

The Lombard Police Department recently responded to a report of a ruse burglary in which a male wearing a reflective vest informed a resident that he was investigating an issue with bacteria in the water in the area to gain access into the home.

Lombard Police reminds residents to protect themselves against a Ruse Burglary by practicing these safety tips:

  • Never allow anyone into your home without a prescheduled appointment.
  • Require that workers show identification prior to allowing them into the house or on your property.
  • If an individual claims affiliation with the Village or other legitimate utilities, ask for ID and call the Village or company to verify.
  • Do not exit your home with an unscheduled visitor, and lock your home if you must accompany a worker outside.
  • Keep an extra watch on elderly neighbors and family.
  • Educate your relatives and neighbors about ruse burglaries.
  • Immediately report suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1. If possible, try to obtain the vehicle license plate, color, make/model, and offender description.

Road Closure and Construction Updates

Road Closure for Eastbound Parkside Avenue
Eastbound Parkside Avenue will be closed from Main Street to the east end of the Holladay construction site on Friday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to accommodate another concrete pour for the building foundation. The timing is limited to midday to avoid impacting commuter traffic. Motorists should seek alternate routes.

Finley Road Construction Update

Beginning Oct. 22, Finley Road between Hickory and Wilson will be detoured to Edson for concrete pavement replacement. Finley will be closed to any northbound traffic but will remain open to southbound local traffic, including to the Sunset Knoll Rec Center. The detour will be in place for approximately two weeks, pending favorable weather.

Project information is available at www.villageoflombard.org/concretepaving.

During the winter months, November 1 – March 31, residents may park their recreational vehicles in their garage, side, or rear yards as long the vehicle is on a hard surface, in the front yard past the setback of 30 feet, or at an off-site storage facility.

The ordinance first took effect on November 1, 2014, to limit the parking of recreational vehicles in the front yard of single-family residential properties. The front yard is generally defined as the first 30 feet from the front property line.

If you have questions regarding the Winter recreational vehicle parking provisions, please feel free to contact the Community Development Code Enforcement Division at (630) 620-5757.

Lombard’s annual six-week free leaf pick-up for residents will begin Monday, Nov. 1, and end Friday, Dec. 10. During this time, residential property owners may place an unlimited amount of paper bags containing only leaves curbside on their normal Waste Management collection day without the need for stickers. Although the free pick-up ends Dec. 10, the general Yard Waste Program ends Dec. 17. If bags of leaves are put out after Dec.10, they will require a yard waste sticker.
