State Rep. Seth Lewis (R-Bartlett) wants to see Hindu heritage become an even more accepted part of the culture, recently filing a resolution to have the month of October formally declared Hindu Heritage Month.

“Hindu heritage, culture, tradition and values have long enriched our great state,” Lewis said in a post to his website. “I think it’s time to get this resolution passed so we can focus on celebrating that unique heritage and culture.”

Lewis also recently made time to encourage 45th District area residents to attend his employment readiness webinar designed to provide them with an opportunity to connect with local employees about open positions.

"As many of you know jobs are very important to me,” he said in a video posted to YouTube about the July 21 event. “I believe that having someone being able to work and be employed is very beneficial in life. I'm very honored today to be able to put on this webinar to those in my district and those visiting who may be out of my district."

The event was held in partnership with the DuPage Workforce Development Division.

Lewis estimated that as many as 1,000 jobs were available across the community.

“Today, companies are hiring employees in ways we’ve never seen before,” he said. “The goal of our employment readiness webinar is to help job seekers navigate this ever-changing landscape and connect them to open positions with local companies.”

Interested parties also had the option of taking part in virtual workshops where they could learn what employees typically look for in virtual interviews, including tutoring about what kinds of questions to ask, how to best present their resumes and how to identify job scams.

In February, Lewis pointed out some fulfilled goals.

“During the campaign, I told voters I would work to remove Mike Madigan as Speaker of the House and initiate term limits,” he posted on Facebook. “Mike Madigan is no longer Speaker. Term limits for Speaker of the House: done. There is a lot more work to do to make Illinois a place people want to live, but not bad for a first month.”
