Naperville City Councilman Kevin Coyne has formed a PAC dedicated to pushing for pro-law enforcement policies.

“It’s called the Suburbs USA PAC and it’s a committee of former elected officials and community leaders, and we’re going to be advocating for pro-law enforcement policies and looking to support pro-police candidates for office,” Coyne said.

Coyne said the PAC has a committee of about 20 members that came together during the last local election to endorse roughly 50 candidates running for offices all the way up to mayor.

“We have a very active social media platform and we're looking to grow it here through the balance of the year and be active in coming election cycles,” he said.

As part of his platform of supporting officers, Safe Suburbs recently posted on Facebook about the statue of Officer George Friendly now positioned in Naperville.

"What a wonderful role model George was for both police and for those holding public office," the group posted on Facebook.

Coyne's PAC is scoring points, with former Republican Congressional candidate Jeanne Ives recently blasting the defund-the-police movement as “dangerous and stupid.”

The movement took its roots in earnest with the Memorial Day weekend 2020 killing of George Floyd at the hands of Minnesota police. The incident led to protests across much of the country, some leading to violence.

“The Democrats are the party of lawlessness and chaos,” said Ives, who registered over 45 percent of the vote in her run against Congressman Sean Casten in the 6th Congressional District.

“Nearly every Democrat, including Casten, refused to vote against condemning the defund police movement and the rioting and lawlessness going on in the country,” she said. “Democrats believe chaos and economic strife will lead to Biden being elected and their control of Congress.”
