How long did Naperville inventors wait for patents granted in week ending Aug. 14?

The longest time between a patent being filed and granted in the week ending Aug. 14 in Naperville was 3,987 days, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent application was filed by Yigang Cai for a method for delivering dynamic policy rules to an end user, according on his/her account balance and service subscription level, in a telecommunication network. It was filed on Sep. 10, 2010 before being approved on Aug. 10, 2021.

It was the only patent approved in the week ending Aug. 14 from Naperville.

Though patents are required for inventions and products, the granting of a patent is not a guarantee for success. Dennis Crouch, co-director of the Center for Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship said roughly 50 percent of patents expire prematurely due to costs.
