Patent office takes 1,490 days to approve Lisle inventor’s patent in week ending Aug. 7

The longest time between a patent being filed and granted in the week ending Aug. 7 in Lisle was 1,490 days, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The patent application was filed by Molex, LLC for a micro power distribution boxes and methods of manufacturing same using application specific electronics packaging techniques. It was filed on July 5, 2017 before being approved on Aug. 3, 2021.

Though patents are required for inventions and products, the granting of a patent is not a guarantee for success. Dennis Crouch, co-director of the Center for Intellectual Property & Entrepreneurship said roughly 50 percent of patents expire prematurely due to costs.

There were four patents granted for Lisle inventors in the week ending Aug. 7.
