Dist 87 Glenbard School District  issued the following announcement on Aug. 16

New COVID-19 dashboard available

We have a new COVID-19 dashboard that provides a summary of 2021-22 information regarding the number of positive COVID-19 cases (students and staff) reported to Glenbard District 87; number of individuals quarantined per Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines; SHIELD testing data once available; and case rate per 100,000 and positivity rate per the IDPH.

The dashboard data will be reviewed and updated on Monday afternoons that school is in session.

We have engaged SHIELD Illinois to offer free voluntary, non-invasive COVID-19 testing at school. More information about the SHIELD testing dates and times will be released as soon as SHIELD Illinois provides them to District 87.

SHIELD has a diagnostic (PCR) test that will be available to staff and students at school each week. This saliva-based test will be available to identify positive COVID-19 cases and keep students safe. Notification of test results will typically occur in less than 24 hours. Learn more about SHIELD Illinois at this link.

GPS Aug. 26 event: Loving, Affirming and Supporting All Children to Thrive

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will present Loving, Affirming and Supporting All Children to Thrive: Gender and Identity Conversation with Dr. Ken Ginsberg and Dr. Robert Garafalo at noon and 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, via Zoom. Go to glenbardgps.org for the link to these two webinars. To be placed on a reminder list for GPS events or submit a question in advance, send an email to gilda_ross@glenbard.org.

For parents and guardians of teens who identify outside societal gender or sexuality norms, there is a critical need for intentional and caring parenting. Young people thrive when they understand that their parents/guardians love and accept them unconditionally. Family members and friends can have a positive impact during the struggles young people face because of rejection, discrimination and a lack of empathy. To introduce strategies to help all young people feel valued, included, safe and loved, GPS will present a webinar featuring two nationally recognized adolescent medical specialists to provide insights and answer questions.

Garofalo is a professor of pediatrics and preventive medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. He is an attending physician at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital, where he serves as the chief of the division of adolescent and young adult medicine. He founded and co-directs the Lurie Children’s Gender & Sex Development Program.

Ginsburg is a pediatrician specializing in adolescent medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is director of health services at Covenant House Pennsylvania. Ginsburg has also written five parenting books, including; “Raising Kids to Thrive: Balancing Love with Expectations and Protection with Trust,” “Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings,” and “Letting Go with Love and Confidence.”

GPS is generously sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, Community Consolidated School District 93 Birth to 5 Community Coalition, Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), College of DuPage, DuPage Medical Group, Emmy Gaffey Foundation, Glenbard Early Childhood Collaborative, Kiwanis Clubs of District 9, and Prevention Leadership Team of the DuPage County Health Department.
