City of Darien issued the following announcement on July 29
DuPage County Health Department reported yesterday that the county's COVID-19 community transmission is now at the Substantial level per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The recent rise in cases and hospitalizations is likely attributed to the more contagious Delta variant. Vaccines continue to be the best form of protection against COVID-19, including the Delta variant, and help prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death. The DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) strongly endorses the recently updated CDC masking guidance which recommends everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas with
substantial and high transmission.
Unvaccinated residents ages 12 and over are urged to get their vaccine as soon as possible - visit www.vaccines.gov to find a location near you.

Avoid Tick Bites
This past week, Gulf Coast ticks were found in DuPage forest preserves- a species that had not previously been observed here. Take precautions to avoid tick bites:
- Walk in the center of trails to avoid brushing up against low-lying vegetation.
- If off-trail, tuck shirt into pants, roll pant legs into socks or boots and apply DEET repellant to ankles.
- Wear light-colored clothing in order to detect crawling ticks.
- Check your body for ticks as soon as possible after you have been outdoors. Check again the following morning.
- Treat outdoor pets with tick and flea medications.
