Village of Schaumburg issued the following announcement on June 11
SCHAUMBURG RECEIVES SMART 50 AWARD FOR SNOW & ICE PROGRAM
The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce it has received a Smart 50 Award from Smart Cities Connect for the village’s innovations to enhance operations and communications of its snow and ice program.
Smart 50 Awards, in partnership with Smart Cities Connect, Smart Cities Connect Foundation, and US Ignite, annually recognize global smart cities projects, honoring the most innovative and influential work. Applicants were recognized for cutting-edge projects that demonstrated current and future municipal-scale impact and applications.
The Village of Schaumburg received the recognition for its innovation in creating a custom-developed application to manage village snow removal operations while also providing real-time tracking via a public accessible map called Snow Stat.
“The creation of these internal and public elements of our snow and ice command program application helps provide the village with critical information to assist with decision-making that is important to improve efficiency of our operations during snow events,” said Schaumburg Village President Tom Dailly.

CONSTRUCTION PROGRESS
ComEd Fiber Distribution Improvement - Plum Grove Road & Golf Road
A ComEd subcontractor will begin work on their village-wide fiber distribution project at the intersection of Plum Grove Road and Golf Road next week starting on Tuesday, June 15. The work will require daytime lane closures from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The total duration of construction is expected to be two weeks plus one week for restoration. Work will begin at the southeast corner of the intersection. The work will then shift west across the intersection with necessary traffic shifts. The trench will be secured with steel plates and a temporary asphalt ramp until the final surface can be placed.
Meacham Road at Algonquin Road Intersection Improvements
Crews are installing new storm sewer and watermain pipes. Several utility crews will also be working along the corridor as relocations and repairs to existing communication cables continues. Motorists should expect to see trucks entering and leaving the work zone at each crew's location. Motorists should also use extra caution when driving through the work zone and be aware of the new pavement marking and traffic signals. There are now single left turn lanes for eastbound, westbound and northbound traffic. Work zone speed limits have also been reduced to 35 miles per hour on both roadways.
Water Main Improvements - Clayton Circle and Manor Circle
Next week, crews will continue restoring the landscape in the area. For safety reasons, pedestrians and motorists should continue using caution when navigating these areas.
