The Republican Party has started its search for GOP legislators who supported the impeachment of former President Donald Trump, and Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Illinois) is on the list.
The Ohio GOP state central committee has Kinzinger on a list of 10 U.S. representatives that it wants to be rebuked “for their votes to support the unconstitutional, politically motivated impeachment proceeding against President Donald J. Trump," according to a copy of the censure resolution obtained by cleveland.com.
The 66-member Ohio committee complains that Kinzinger's, and the other nine Republicans', actions in favor of Trump's impeachment were "meritless partisan acts driven by retribution," and the House Democrats' impeachment process in January was "unfairly expedited, with no hearings or presentation of evidence."
Members of the committee did not respond to requests for comment from Fox News last week.
Trump's impeachment proceedings were, according to the committee, unprecedented, unconstitutional and divisive.
"Now is the time for Republicans to unify as a party and uphold the United States Constitution and the rule of law," the resolution said.
The Ohio committee will vote on the censure this week.
Kinzinger, who represents Joliet in Will County, some parts of Naperville in southern DuPage County and Aurora in Kane County, was recently in the news for an alleged affair between him and a Russian model, according to Kendall County Times.
The Illinois representative has been outspoken against Trump multiple times, drawing lashings from his GOP colleagues.
