Community Consolidated School District 89 recently issued the following announcement.

The Glen Crest Middle School Math Team recently ended a brief and successful 2021 season. Several students earned top-10 finishes at the Spartans’ two virtual meets.

More than 370 students participated in the first virtual regional math competition sponsored by St. Francis High School, where only individual places were awarded.

Four Glen Crest eighth-grade students finished in the top 10. Ella Pope finished third; Andrew Lullo and Grace Bittingmaier placed fifth; River Manov finished ninth. Seventh-grade student Emma Briggs finished ninth for her grade level.

In the second virtual regional competition (sponsored by Marmion Academy), both team and individual places were awarded.

Glen Crest Middle School placed second in the team competition.

Several eighth-grade students finished in the top 10 at that grade level: Ella Pope (second), Andrew Lullo and Grace Bittingmaier (tied for third), and Kamalaksha Nimishakavi (fourth).

Four seventh-grade students finished in the top 10 for their grade level: Kavya Uppal (second), Emma Briggs and Aarush Singh (tied for third), and Ashrith Valluri (fourth).

“These finishes are quite an honor for our students,” said Glen Crest Middle School math teacher and math team coach Monica Shekar.
