CITY OF WEST CHICAGO: Video of Virtual Tree Lighting Lifts and Brightens Spirits

Christmas

City of West Chicago issued the following announcement on Dec 7.

A virtual lighting of the official Christmas tree at the Fox Community Center in downtown West Chicago, with appearances by Mayor Ruben Pineda and Santa Claus, was captured on video by City staff last week for the community’s enjoyment.

While not the same as being there live, the City, Kramer Tree Specialists, the West Chicago Community High School Choir Acapella group, and the residents who created Frosty ornaments hope the video will lift and brighten spirits craving some holiday magic.

“It took the effort of many to bring the video about,” said Special Event Coordinator Nicolette Stefan, “and we wish to thank everyone who contributed.”

Keeping the spirit alive even during a pandemic was the goal of the City’s Public Works Department, which decorated downtown West Chicago as usual, and Kramer Tree Specialists which has a long-standing tradition of donating its services to adorn the official tree. This year, Kramer Trees sponsored an ornament-making activity that offered community members the chance to decorate a wooden snowman and have it hung for everyone to see and enjoy when they visit downtown.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday, Mayor Pineda gave a message of hope for the future. “Next year we’ll try to bring back all our festivals and try to get back to normal,” said Mayor Pineda. “And I think it’s possible,” he added.

Even Santa had a message for families across West Chicago, “Merry Christmas, West Chicago. I miss you all. Please stay safe and I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.”
