Illinois State House District 41 issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

State Representative Grant Wehrli (R-Naperville) wants to make sure restaurants and bars impacted by the COVID-19 resurgence mitigations know about a grant program offered through DuPage County. The $2.5 million in new grant funding, approved by the DuPage County Board this week, aims to help local bars and restaurants that were forced to close their doors to indoor dining and bar service last week due to increased COVID-19 positivity rates. This week’s $2.5 million influx of funds brings the current county grant program from $1.5 million to $4 million.

“I am hearing from many restaurant owners who don’t think they will survive these latest operational restrictions,” said Wehrli. “With the arrival of cold weather, outdoor dining is becoming impractical, and several of our restaurateurs worry about their ability to meet payroll and to make ends meet. These grants will help keep them afloat, and I applaud the County Board and Choose DuPage for making the funds available.”

Through the county grant program, eligible businesses are eligible to receive up to $15,000 to help recoup lost revenue tied to the pandemic. The $2.5 million comes from federal CARES Act.
