Bloomingdale FPD responds to 120 fires in 2018

Bloomingdale Fire Protection District responded to 793 calls in 2018 - 12.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Bloomingdale included 120 fires - 68 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 48 other fires. The fire department also responded to one call for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $445,075 in fire loss - or about $3,709 per fire.

The department also received 672 false calls, including 23 malicious calls and 649 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, six fire service member were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Bloomingdale Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $11,483,164 in 2018.

The Bloomingdale FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 42 active employees and 29 retired or inactive employees, was $40,863 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $303 for every fire in 2017.
