Glenside FPD responds to 68 fires in 2018

Glenside Fire Protection District responded to 489 calls in 2018 - 4.3 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Glenside included 68 fires - 39 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 24 other fires. The fire department also responded to four calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $144,900 in fire loss - or about $2,131 per fire.

The department also received 417 false calls, including five malicious calls and 412 other false calls.

The calls resulted in five civilian fire-related injuries.

The Glenside Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $6,039,685 in 2018.

The Glenside FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 14 active employees and 20 retired or inactive employees, was $136,735 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,848 for every fire in 2017.
