Itasca FPD responds to 59 fires in 2018

Itasca Fire Protection District responded to 227 calls in 2018 - 7.6 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Itasca included 59 fires - 40 structure fires, four vehicle fires and 15 other fires.

In all, the department saw $169,000 in fire loss - or about $2,864 per fire.

The department also received 168 false calls, including two malicious calls and 166 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, one fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Itasca Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $5,151,211 in 2018.

The Itasca FPD #1 Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 21 active employees and 13 retired or inactive employees, was $986,120 positive as of May 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $20,981 for every fire in 2017.
