Lombard FD responds to 137 fires in 2018

Lombard Fire District responded to 802 calls in 2018 - 6.8 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Lombard included 137 fires - 76 structure fires, 26 vehicle fires and 35 other fires. The fire department also responded to eight calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $933,167 in fire loss - or about $6,811 per fire.

The department also received 657 false calls, including 16 malicious calls and 641 other false calls.

The calls resulted in one civilian fire-related injury. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents and one was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Lombard Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 64 active employees and 53 retired or inactive employees, was $3,988,135 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $37,624 for every fire in 2017.
