5. COMMITTEE VOTE REQUIRED

A. Action Item -- Recommendation for Approval of the 1st Revision to the Occupancy  Rights under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Policy.

Selmon asked with the current moratorium (on housing evictions), if an individual was  accused or charged with an act of violence, would they still be evicted. Keating did not  know the answer to the question. Selmon was fine with the policy as written for this  committee but requested that the answer be found out before this went to County Board  for approval. She wanted to make sure that a pandemic was not used as an excuse when  a family was in danger. Keating explained that this body has the authority to set policy,  which this item is, so it will not go to County Board for approval. Keating was going to  contact the State’s Attorney’s office for clarification.

Rutledge asked, since this item does not go to County Board, and Selmon’s question  could not be answered, should the policy be voted on today. Selmon responded that she  was fine with voting on this item today, as long as clarification was provided at the next  meeting.
