BENSENVILLE SCHOOL DISTRICT 2: District 2 shares Fall 2020 school opening options

Bensenville School District 2 recently issued the following announcement.

The BSD2 Board of Education reviewed three possible school opening plans during its July 9 meeting.

While surveys provide a level of information regarding parent perspectives, the goal of the meeting’s open forum was to capture-in-the-moment perspectives. The Board of Education obtained immediate parent feedback at the meeting.

Reopening Options 2 and 3 were discussed in great detail. Regrettably, Option 1 does not seem to be a possible choice as we consider safety criteria. Please note that all options were developed under the school opening guidelines issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and the DuPage Health Department (DHD).

In an attempt to help you prepare, please see the following possible OPTIONS (in no particular order) for how school may open in the fall:

  • Option 1 (100 percent In-person Model): Traditional in-person school with some or no restrictions required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or IDPH.
  • Option 2 (Hybrid Model): A combination of in-person and remote learning. Students physically attend school two days a week (e.g. Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday); three days a week, students work remotely from home.
  • Option 3 (100 percent Remote Instruction Model) The continuation of remote learning with children receiving instruction five days a week at home.
The goal is to return students to school safely, which is why we simultaneously developed a hybrid reopening plan.

During the Board’s discussion, moving from the 100 percent remote option to the hybrid option could occur after Labor Day; however, this goal is dependent upon monitoring safety and health challenges.

To further inform the Board of Education and administration, a brief Return-to-School Parent Survey will be released today, and will close on Wednesday, July 15.

A more detailed survey will be released in the middle of next week, and follow-up surveys will be conducted throughout the 2020-2021 school year to ensure a continuous flow of feedback.
