Dr. Michael Camerer is being remembered for his undying level of devotion to the Village of Bartlett.
Camerer, who served two terms as a village trustee and was running as a Republican for the Illinois House in the 45th District, died of natural causes on June 18. He was 61.
“His was a robust life of service and he certainly had more to give," Bartlett Administrator Paula Schumacher said. "He dedicated his life to helping others, as a doctor, teacher, Rotarian, village trustee, friend, father and husband. He led our community thoughtfully with care and passion and honor. Bartlett is the better for his service and we feel his loss deeply."
Bartlett village officials told the Daily Herald Camerer was thinking of others when he decided to challenge incumbent state Rep. Diane Pappas for her seat in Springfield.
“His run for the state legislature was motivated by his belief that our state needs new direction and insight from people willing to listen to the residents of Illinois,” officials said. “He was seeking to consolidate overlapping and redundant government agencies in order to better utilize taxpayer dollars and to enact new, powerful ethics legislation and tougher penalties for public corruption.”
Added Village of Bartlett President Kevin Wallace, "He was amazing for the Village of Bartlett, literally touched thousands of lives. His passion was to help Illinois become a better state."
A graduate of Judson University, Camerer opened the Camerer Chiropractic Clinic in Bartlett after practicing in Chicago and Melbourne, Australia for a time. In addition to operating the clinic for the last 30-years, he also taught classes at his alma mater as an adjunct professor.
Camerer is survived by his wife of 34 years, Robin; sons Jonathan, Daniel and Matthew; his mother, Darielle; and brother Alan.
A graveside service was held at the Bartlett Cemetery.
