Illinois' 6th Congressional District issued the following announcement on June 18.

U.S. Representative Sean Casten (IL-06) released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled against the Trump administration’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program:

Casten said, “Today’s Supreme Court ruling to stop the Trump administration’s cruel plan to end DACA is a victory for nearly 700,000 DACA recipients, including over 5,000 Dreamers in the 6th District, their families, and our community. Dreamers contribute greatly to our economy and our workforce, including working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic as doctors, nurses, and emergency room workers. They are the foundation of the American dream and add to the rich diversity of our Nation. While today’s decision will provide temporary relief, we must pass a permanent solution for Dreamers. To start, the Senate must pass H.R. 6, the American Dream and Promise Act the House passed over a year ago."

Over 5,500 people living in Illinois’ 6th congressional district would be eligible for protection under H.R. 6 the Dream and Promise Act of 2019, 5,300 of whom are Dreamers.
