Bensenville School District 2 recently issued the following announcement.
On May 5, Governor Pritzker released “Restore Illinois,” a five-phased plan to reopen the state. The Illinois Department of Public Health and the DuPage County Health Department will use this plan to determine when and how District 2 will return to normal operations.
We are now in Phase 2 of this plan, and health officials caution that we could return to even-stricter Phase 1 restrictions if ongoing mitigation efforts aren't successful.
The plan doesn’t call for schools to reopen until Phases 4 and 5 (see below). No dates exist yet for these events.
A Phase 4 reopening would occur under strict guidance from state and county public health officials, and would likely be something much different than our normal operations. In Phase 5, we could fully reopen.
The reality, though, is we may begin next school year the way we wrap up this one -- with our schools closed and our remote learning program in place. We are preparing, though, for a limited, phased-in reopening, because that appears to be how our schools will eventually reopen, even if it isn’t how we begin the 2020-2021 school year.
Presently, we don’t know how that limited, phased-in reopening will look. We will determine that over the summer, while we also work to enhance our remote learning program, strengthen our social-emotional learning supports, and develop and implement new COVID-19 safety procedures that will enable us to welcome students and teachers back into our schools.
We are all looking forward to that day, and we will share our progress with you as we diligently work toward it.
Thank you for your support. Please know that we miss you, and we are here to help any way we can.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jim Stelter
Superintendent of Schools
