Illinois House candidate Dr. Michael Camerer (R-Bartlett) was not altogether surprised by Gov. J.B. Pritzker's decision to extend the statewide stay-at-home order through the month of May as a way of fighting the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The policies coming out of Springfield too often hurt our local families and businesses,” Camerer, running against incumbent state Rep. Diane Pappas (D-Itasca) in the 45th District, told the DuPage Policy Journal. “As a small business owner for 30 years in our community, it is critical that we support our local businesses while curtailing the spread of this deadly disease. The business owners I know are desperate to provide services to their customers and pay their employees while protecting the health of our friends and neighbors. We must pursue a balanced approach to save and strengthen our community businesses.”
Camerer is convinced that Pritzker’s lack of transparency in his handling of the crisis only stands to make matters more difficult.
“We need to do all we can to curtail the spread of the COVID virus while also balancing public health concerns in the medium- and long-term and ensuring that the hard-working families of our communities can provide for themselves,” Camerer said. “That is why it is critical that the governor is allowing health care providers to resume operations for additional ailments and offer the care people need.”
Camerer says that he feels his background as a small business owner, village trustee and member of the local chamber of commerce uniquely lends itself to providing the right voice in Springfield.
“Rejuvenating our economy, restoring local businesses and returning people to work are crucial issues facing our families,” he said. “I bring a professional perspective to Springfield that is sorely needed. As a legislator, I'll fight for you and our local businesses to help ensure that we have good jobs and opportunities.”
