State House candidate Dr. Michael Camerer (R-Bartlett) feels that his experiences as a healer are just what the people of Illinois' 45th District need most right now.
“I bring a perspective of a small business owner and doctor of over 30 years,” Camerer told the DuPage Policy Journal. “I understand what it means to live within a balanced budget and know what it feels like to have to make cuts in spending during lean years. I have spent my career listening to people, diagnosing and working to fix their problems.”
Camerer argues that those are just a few of the ways he differs from state Rep. Diane Pappas (D-Itasca), his opponent in November’s general election.
“Residents of the 45th District are concerned about the continued increase in their cost of living and are outraged by the ongoing political corruption within our state,” Camerer said. “Leaders must identify and implement solutions to lower Illinois' second-highest in the nation property taxes so families and seniors can afford to stay in their homes. I support strong ethics reform to dissuade legislators and lobbyists from breaking the law while serving the people of our state.”
Camerer said Springfield’s shortcomings account for the top reasons so many people are now fleeing the state, further growing the tax burden and creating an even more perilous landscape for those who remain.
“I am different than my opponent in that I understand the financial needs of our local families and state,” Camerer said. “We need a balanced budget and to keep the state competitive by reducing the cost of living and re-prioritizing spending to protect our most vulnerable.”
Camerer says the ongoing COVID-19 crisis only stands to make things tougher.
“It shows us how badly Illinois needs to stabilize its finances so we're ready in an emergency,” he said.
A Bartlett Village trustee for the last seven years, Camerer has stern advice for Gov. J.B. Pritzker and what needs to come next in the state’s battle against the virus.
“Using CDC recommendations as guidance, the governor should outline his plans to reopen the state using a phased-in approach while also implementing preventive measures to maintain the health and safety of all,” he said. “In this era of uncertainty and the need to get our economy back on track, an open line of communication between the governor and the public is essential so we can truly see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
