After Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Feb. 19 budget address, Laura Hois, Republican candidate for Illinois 81st District of the House of Representatives, called for lower taxes and less spending.
“Families in Illinois pay the highest combined state and local tax rates in the nation, as well as the second-highest property tax," she said. “As the 81st District representative, I will work to curb skyrocketing spending and provide property tax relief for families and businesses so they can thrive, rather than drive them out of the state.”
She contrasted her position with that of her opponent, incumbent Rep. Anne Stava-Murray, (D-Downers Grove) who has voted for more taxes and spending, said Hois. "A tax-and-spend agenda is no way to legislate,” Hois said in a statement.

Pritzker is seeking a progressive tax, effective Jan. 2, 2021, to replace the state's current flat-rate income tax. Voters would first have to approve an amendment to the state constitution before the progressive tax could be implemented.
The 81st District includes all or part of the communities of Bolingbrook, Darien, Downers Grove, Lisle, Naperville, Westmont, and Woodridge.
Hois was in-house counsel at the McDonald's Corporation for 19 years. She has also served as Deputy Assessor at Sugar Grove Township, and as the Town Clerk at Downers Grove Township, where she implemented cost-saving initiatives and service improvements.
Hois lives in Downers Grove with her husband and three children.
