Mrs. Cain, President of the Board, called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m.

5. Recognition of District 88 Successes

A. 88's Best Students

88’s Best Students Britney Galeana from Addison Trail and Christopher Vazquez from Willowbrook were recognized for the month of November. The students were congratulated on their many accomplishments. The students thanked the Board, their teachers and their friends and families for support.

Mrs. Cain called for a break at 7:38 p.m.

Mrs. Cain called the meeting back to order at 7:51 p.m.

B. Veterans Day

Mr. Bolden stated that on Nov. 8, Addison Trail invited members of the Addison Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7446 and other veterans, as well as veterans from the Addison Police Department and the Addison Fire Protection District, to a luncheon. Participants watched a video and saw a display in the media center that featured photos and items of veterans with a connection to Addison Trail or the Village of Addison. The school also recognized current students who plan to serve in the military.

Dr. Krause shared that at Willowbrook, American flags lined the entryway to the school on Nov. 11. Willowbrook staff members who have served also read announcements at the start of each period that day to share information about the branches of the military and the history of Veterans Day.

C. School Board Members Day

Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton recognized November 18th through 22nd as American Education Week. This year’s theme is “Reach. Educate. Inspire.” On November 15, 2019, school districts throughout Illinois celebrated School Board Members Day. This year’s theme is “Transform Vision into Reality.”

District 88 thanked the villages of Addison, Lombard and Villa Park for recognizing School Board Members Day through proclamations, messages displayed on their marquees and their overall support of our Board and district. The administration thanked its school board members and staff members for their service and dedication.

A. Financial Reports

1) List of Bills for October 2019

Mr. Edward Hoster, Chief Financial Officer, recommended the List of Bills for October 2019, in the amount of $6,748,466.22 be approved.

B. Fundraisers Exceeding $1000.00

Mr. Edward Hoster, Chief Financial Officer, informed the Board of the following fundraisers with anticipated revenue in excess of $1,000.00:

1. Addison Trail Music Boosters will sell Lou Malnati’s frozen pizza cards. Proceeds will be used for the 2020 trip to New York, the 2021 trip, and/or other music related costs.

2. Willowbrook will host the Relay for Life, sell t-shirts and collect donations for the American Cancer Society. All proceeds are donated to the American Cancer Society to help fund programs i.e., free wigs for chemotherapy patients, prevention education, caregiver support and cancer research.

7. Educational Focus Item

A. New Course Proposals

Dr. Jamie Gourley, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction provided an update on District 88’s new course proposals for the 2020-2021 school year.

The new courses that will be available to students are: PLTW Cybersecurity, Quantitative Literacy and Statistics, AP Physics C, Career, Culture, College Explorations, and Culinary Explorations at Addison Trail and Willowbrook; Biomedical Terminology and AVID 10 at Addison Trail.

Mr. Hoster presented the usage report details the credit card transactions for the month of October. Total activity for the month is $9,694.00.

B. Supplemental Property Tax Levy Resolution for 2019

Mr. Edward Hoster, Chief Financial Officer, provided details to the Board of Education pertaining to the Supplemental Property Tax Levy resolution for tax levy year 2019.

C. Freedom of Information Request

Dr. Barbanente reported that on October 30, 2019, DuPage High School District 88 received a request via email from Ms. Bethany Simpson, SmartProcure for the following information through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA):

Purchase records from 07-31-2019 to Current.

• Purchase order number. If purchase orders are not used a comparable substitute is acceptable, i.e., invoice, encumbrance, or check number

ATHLETIC UPDATE:

• Boys And Girls Cross Country - Congratulations to our State meet participants, Viviana Sanfilippo and Dylan Moran for an unbelievable performance

Saturday, in the State Meet!!! Viviana set the tone in the girls' race against the best in the state, with a career-best of 18:20. She is the first Blazer female qualifier for the state meet in school history!!! Dylan ended the day with a career-best 15:39 and a new school record. 'Dylan is the highest placing and fastest Blazer in school history! What a wonderful accomplishment for both! Congratulations!!!!

• Boys Soccer - Congratulations to Anthony Hernandez and Leo Acosta for being awarded to the Daily Herald All-Area first team. Both players were All Sectional as well this season for the blazers. Aaron Sanchez was awarded Honorable Mention to the Daily Herald All-Area team as well. Congratulations Blazers!!!

• Mamma Mia - Three Nights of nearly sold-out productions!

• Poms/Dance - 2nd place at Andrew Competition

• Speech Team - 3rd place at Plainfield North

• Ellie Hassler - State Qualifier in Swim for 50 yd free, 100 yd free, and 100 yd breaststroke for athletes with disabilities

• Football - Quarterfinal victory over Lake Zurich, Advanced to Semifinals against Mt. Carmel on Saturday at 1:00 PM

• Music Concerts, Jazz Band/Center Stage/Rock Band Concert, will take place at 7:00 p.m. on December 5th. Holiday Concert I is December 10th and Holiday Concert II is December 12th at 7:00 p.m.
