Rep. Casten's impeachment vote may take away your right to vote, Ives warns 6th District constituents

Congressional candidate Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) sees her 2020 opponent, U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Downers Grove), as being right in the middle of a movement to suppress the will of the American people – given the congressman's recent vote for the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump.

“Democrats, including 6th District Congressman Sean Casten, voted to impeach President Trump,” Ives recently said in a press release. “They did so because – when it comes right down to it – they don’t trust Americans not to reelect him.”

Ives insists that Casten has been one of the key figures in the impeachment proceedings since even before they even began.

U.S. Rep. Sean Casten (D-Downers Grove)

“Casten was leading the charge on impeachment before the Mueller Report was released,” she said. “Before there was a whistleblower or a transcript or Masterpiece Theater with Adam Schiff, he went to Congress to undo election results he didn’t like.”

Such brazenly partisan politics pose a risk to the entire system of government, Ives says.

“Keep in mind how unserious and reckless Casten and company are with Congress’ impeachment power,” she said. “On July 17, 2019, 95 of Casten’s House Democratic colleagues voted in support of an impeachment resolution over Trump’s insulting statements about the so-called 'Squad.' On Jan. 19, 2018, 66 of Casten’s House Democratic colleagues voted in support of an impeachment resolution over Trump using the phrase 'sh*thole countries.' On Dec. 6, 2017, 58 of Casten’s House Democratic colleagues voted in support of an impeachment resolution over Trump’s criticizing NFL players who knelt during the playing of the national anthem. Are we really to believe that this is a caucus full of reasonable people who take their Constitutional oath seriously?”

The way Ives sees it, Casten has lost his focus on representing the ideals of his constituents back home in Illinois.

“Sean Casten has spent his time in office on crusades against the 2016 election results, the industrial revolution, religious liberty, private health insurance and general decency,” Ives said. “He is a representative of the most extreme elements of the House Democratic Caucus rather than the people who sent him to D.C. to represent their interests.”
