City of Elmhurst Fire Department issued the following announcement on Dec. 10.
Elmhurst companies were dispatched to 157 S. Rex at 3:13 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10th for the report of an outside smoke investigation.
Upon arrival, Elmhurst companies found flames coming from the roof of a 2-story single family home at 161 S. West Ave. Along with Mutual Aid companies from Oakbrook Terrace, Villa Park, and Addison the fire was under control by 3:45 am.
No firefighter or civilian injuries were reported. Every effort was made to revive a family pet that was in the home, however these attempts were unsuccessful.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The residence has been deemed uninhabitable. No damage estimates are yet available at this time.
