City of West Chicago issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.

A huge win for the West Chicago Wildcats Boys’ Soccer Team on Saturday, November 9, 2019, is a huge win for the entire City. The pride and spirit the team displayed winning the Class 3A Boys State Soccer Championship was memorable for their families, friends, and extremely significant to Mayor Ruben Pineda.

“It’s incredible,” Mayor Pineda told the Daily Herald. “The teams they beat and the way they played, you’ve got to take your hat off to them, they’re really a fantastic team. Right now I can tell the entire community is very proud of them.”

The Daily Herald, which closely followed the Wildcats’ season of play, ran the story with a headline that read “West Chicago soccer team ‘brought a whole community together.’”

A celebration coordinated by Community High School District 94 on Sunday, November 10, 2019, brought out students, faculty, residents and others to share the love and admiration for the team that rose to the occasion and brought the trophy home to West Chicago.

The team will be honored again at City Hall, 475 Main Street at the City Council meeting on Monday, December 2, 2019 at 7:00 p.m.
