Cass School District 63 Board of Education met Aug. 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF SCHOOL DISTRICT 63, DUPAGE COUNTY, ILLINOIS; HELD AT CASS SCHOOL DISTRICT 63 AT 7:30 P.M. ON THE 20TH DAY OF AUGUST, 2019.

Kerry J. Foderaro, Superintendent of Schools

Laura Anderson, Concord Elementary School Principal

Christine Marcinkewicz, Cass Junior High School Principal

Gayle Wilson, Recording Secretary and Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent

CLOSED SESSION

Discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of a specific employee or employees of the District.

Member Johnson moved and Secretary Esposito seconded a motion to go into Closed Session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of a specific employee or employees of the District.

OPEN SESSION

The meeting was called to order at 7:39 p.m. Upon roll being called, the following members answered present: President Shelly Camden, Vice President Absalonsen, Secretary Alice Esposito, Member Brad Carrino, Member Lana Johnson and Member Michael Ockrim.

Member Jeff McCollian was absent.

REPORTS

A. CAss Resources for Enrichment (CARE) Report

Superintendent Foderaro shared that CARE’s first meeting of the school year was on Monday, August 19 and there were approximately 30 people in attendance. CARE will be hosting the Boo Hoo Breakfast on Thursday, August 22 and the Ice Cream Social on Friday, August 23. Member Johnson added that the Concord Elementary School and Cass Junior High School CARE Dash is scheduled for September 13, which is an Early Release Day.

B. Administrators’ Reports

Principal Anderson reviewed the summer activities at Concord Elementary School in preparation for the 2019/20 school year highlighting all the professional development that occurred over the summer.

Principal Marcinkewicz reviewed the summer activities at Cass Junior High School in preparation for the 2019/20 school year highlighting the new technology updates that occurred over the summer.

Superintendent Foderaro thanked all of the staff that worked over the summer to help to prepare for the successful start to the 2019/20 school year.

OLD BUSINESS

A. Discussion of Board of Education Committees

 Chairperson Johnson stated that the Community Connections Committee will shortly begin work on a Fall newsletter.

 Chairperson Camden stated that the Policy & Planning Committee received new policies over the summer that will need to be reviewed and considered by the Policy & Planning Committee.

 Chairperson Esposito stated that the Finance Committee will schedule a meeting at the end of September or beginning of October to review the audit.

 Co-Chairperson Esposito stated that the Facilities Committee will be meeting over the winter.

B. Discussion Of And Possible Action On Resolution Providing For The Issue Of Not To Exceed $2,600,000 General Obligation Limited Tax School Bonds For The Purposes Of Increasing The Working Cash Fund And Refunding Outstanding Bonds, Providing For The Levy Of A Direct Annual Tax To Pay The Principal And Interest On Said Bonds, And Authorizing The Execution Of A Bond Purchase Agreement With Raymond James & Associates Inc., In Connection With The Proposed Sale Of Said Bonds

Superintendent Foderaro stated that this resolution is for the purpose of completing the bond refinancing to cover the cost of the Concord Elementary School new roof.

Secretary Esposito moved and Member Johnson seconded a motion to approve the Resolution Providing For The Issue Of Not To Exceed $2,600,000 General Obligation Limited Tax School Bonds For The Purposes Of Increasing The Working Cash Fund And Refunding Outstanding Bonds, Providing For The Levy Of A Direct Annual Tax To Pay The Principal And Interest On Said Bonds, And Authorizing The Execution Of A Bond Purchase Agreement With Raymond James & Associates Inc., In Connection With The Proposed Sale Of Said Bonds as presented.

Secretary Esposito moved and Vice President Absalonsen seconded a motion to approve the Resolution Authorizing and Directing the Execution of an Escrow Agreement in Connection with the Issue of Taxable General Obligation Limited Tax Refunding School Bonds as presented.

 There were no public comments.

BOARD MEMBER REMARKS

 Member Johnson thanked the individuals responsible for launching the District’s new website and stated how much she likes the new format.

 President Camden commented on how much she appreciated how smoothly Orientation Day went this year.

 Member Carrino stated how amazing it was to see the improvement the Band students made during their week long Band Camp.

BOARD SECRETARY ANNOUNCEMENTS/CORRESPONDENCE

 The Board of Education received a FOIA request from Mr. Bob Flynn.

 The next Regular Board of Education Meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 in the District Community Room.

Secretary Esposito moved and Vice President Absalonsen seconded a motion to adjourn this Board of Education Meeting of August 20, 2019. Voice vote; All Ayes. Motion Carried 6 to 0
