Rep. Crenshaw Responds to Sean Casten’s Slur

Issued the following announcement on Oct. 15.

Rather than respond to a constituent’s question at a recent town hall about the anti-Semitic remarks of his colleague and ally Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Sean Casten chose instead to slur GOP congressman Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas), over his amendment to the resolution condemning hatred in all of its forms:

"The new Republican, the Navy SEAL with the eyepatch. He came up with an amendment to say, ‘...that illegals can't vote.' And I sat there and I said, ‘...Why are you doing that? The reason you're doing that is because you are a racist. Because you are trying to appeal to people who will vote for you if you stand up and oppose brown people.’"

“When you can’t articulate a coherent argument, you resort to calling your political opponents racist,” Rep. Crenshaw said in response. “Can’t say I’m surprised. Just another day in Washington with the Democrat Party.”

“As Rep. Crenshaw indicated, when they can’t beat you, they have to brand you,” said Jeanne Ives, Republican Candidate for Congress (IL-06).

One might also ask, if Casten believes it is racist to propose illegal immigrants not be allowed to vote, does Casten propose we change the law and allow for noncitizens to vote? It wouldn’t be racist if he supported the existing law on the matter, correct?
