NAPERVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT: Firefighters Battle Kitchen Fire in the 100 Block of Tupelo Ave

Naperville Fire Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 16.

At 1:54 PM on Monday afternoon (09/16/19), Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call for the smoke investigation at the single-family residence located in the 100 block of Tupelo Ave. Naperville 911(PSAP) dispatched a Full Still assignment to the reported address which consisted of 6 pieces of fire apparatus and 13 fire personnel to the scene.

The first unit arrived on scene at 1:59 PM and reported smoke showing from the roof line of the bi-level single-family home. The alarm was upgraded to a general alarm assignment bringing an additional 4 pieces of fire apparatus and 11 additional fire personnel for a total of 24 fire personnel to the scene. Fire attack was initiated by the first-arriving squad, medic, and truck companies and a water source was secured. The fire was found to be burning in the kitchen, was quickly extinguished and confined to the area of origin. Upon the arrival of additional fire companies, salvage and overhaul operations were performed. No civilians were home at the time of the event. Unfortunately, 1 pet dog which was found upon initial search operations within the residence, perished in the fire. An inspector from Naperville’s Transportation, Engineering and Development (TED) was also notified. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Department’s fire investigation team and the residence was deemed uninhabitable.

The Naperville Fire Department was assisted by on the scene by the Naperville Police Department. The Plainfield Fire Protection District, the Westmont Fire Department, the Bolingbrook Fire Department and Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident. There were

no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
