Illinois 56th State House District issued the following announcement on March 29.

Continuing her efforts to combat the effects of climate change and create economic opportunities in Illinois, state Rep. Michelle Mussman, D-Schaumburg, helped pass the Clean Energy Jobs Act (CEJA) out of the House Energy & Environment Committee this week.

“Illinois has been a leader in increasing renewable energy and protecting the environment,” Mussman said. “The Clean Energy Jobs Act will help us move forward in addressing climate change and create a better future for our next generations. I’m grateful to be able to serve on the Energy & Environment Committee and help this important legislation move to the House floor for a vote.”

House Bill 3624 creates the CEJA and aims to transform how the state views renewable resources and the transition to entirely renewable energy resources by the year 2050. The CEJA provides framework for not only how to make the transition, but outlines the upcoming job opportunities and economic growth that will arise from the transition to a green economy. One of the largest contributors to pollution is the transportation industry and the CEJA includes a program that incentivizes vehicle electrification.

“This legislation will benefit our state by creating jobs and increasing economic activity, while also addressing the urgent issue of climate change,” Mussman said. “We cannot continue to rely on unsustainable energy sources, and I am confident that the Clean Energy Jobs Act will put us on the right track to a brighter future.”
