Community Consolidated School District 89 issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.
Looking for new ways to help your student? The Glenbard Parent Series hosts free, local talks with insights on students and parenting.
The next presentation will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, at the College of DuPage. Rachel Simmons, author of “Enough As She Is”, “ Odd Girl Out” and “The Curse of the Good Girl”, will share strategies to help girls and boys overcome brutal self-criticism, an acute fear of failure, and feelings that they will never be smart enough, successful enough, or attractive enough.
Today’s teens may seem more successful, yet they’ve also never struggled more with anxiety, stress and depression. Simmons exposes the dilemma of a narrow, unattainable vision of ‘success’, translates the toxic messages that teens have internalized, and provides the tools young people need to practice self-compassion, and pursue purpose to let them know they are enough as they are.
Join us and learn practical parenting advice—including teaching teens how to manage overthinking, resist the constant urge to compare themselves to peers, take healthy risks, navigate negative elements of social media, prioritize self-care, and seek support when needed to not just survive but thrive.
The public is invited to this free event which will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the College of DuPage McAninch Arts Center in Glen Ellyn.
This presentation will be repeated at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Marquardt School District 15 administration center, 1860 Glen Ellyn Road, Glendale Heights.
Continuing professional development units are available.
The Glenbard Parent Series is partnering with Glen Ellyn Public Library for a discussion of the important book “Good Enough As She Is” at 7 p.m. Thursday January, 24 at the Glen Ellyn Public Library.
