WEST CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT: Project REC – Register Every Camera

Fredericbissonflickr

West Chicago Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 2.

Did you know that your video surveillance system (including doorbell cameras) could potentially help solve a crime? The West Chicago Police Department’s Project REC gives residents and business owners throughout the City an opportunity to share useful video footage from their privately owned surveillance camera systems with police officers who are working to identify and arrest criminals.

The West Chicago Police Department has partnered with CrimeReports.com to provide residents and businesses the opportunity to register their security cameras. Working together will enhance our crime fighting resources in an effort to further deter and solve crime in West Chicago.

The West Chicago Police Department will not have access to your security camera system. During the investigation of a crime, officers’ conduct neighborhood canvasses for additional witnesses or evidence. This registration program gives us an opportunity to go directly to where a security camera is located, and with the assistance of the security camera owner, view the security video to determine if the crime, suspect, or suspect vehicle was captured.

The location of all registered security cameras is secure, and only available to West Chicago Police Department personnel. This program is completely free, and there is no obligation to provide thevideo footage if requested.

Register Your Camera

Registering your camera with the West Chicago Police Department will help officers quickly determine if there are cameras nearby that may have captured criminal acts. West Chicago citizens would be taking an active part in keeping the community safe and assisting in deterring crime in our City.

For questions about the Camera Registration Project, please contact West Chicago Police Department Community Relations Officer Robyn Nielsen at (630) 293-2222.

The West Chicago Police Department thanks you for your cooperation and assistance in solving crimes that occur in our community.
