BUTLER SCHOOL DISTRICT 53: Board seeks new board member applications by Nov. 1

Board

Butler School District 53 issued the following announcement on Oct. 24.

Butler School District 53 Board of Education member Lou Paskalides resigned from the Board after completing nearly 8 years of distinguished service to the district, including chairing two critical board committees. His resignation was effective Oct. 15, 2018. School board officials are actively seeking to fill the vacancy and invite District 53 residents to consider applying to fill the unexpired term.

The individual appointed to fill the vacancy, which Illinois law requires to fill within 45 days of the effective resignation date, will serve the unexpired term until the Board canvasses the election results from the April 2, 2019 Consolidated Election.

Per Board Policy 1020, applicants are asked to submit an application form, a cover letter and a brief resume via email, fax, U.S. Postal mail, or hand delivered to the District office, 2801 York Rd., Oak Brook, IL 60523. If hand delivered, the application is due by the end of the business day, 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1. If an application is sent via email (email Vickie Galvin at vgalvin@butler53.com) or by fax (630-573-5374) or U.S. Postal mail, it is due by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1. Applications sent in the last six months for an open board position may be resubmitted. The Board will invite selected candidates for a confidential interview at a special closed session of the Board on Monday evening, Nov. 5. The Board will take action in open session to name a successor.

Illinois law requires a school board member to be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Illinois and a resident of District 53 for at least one year preceding board membership, and a registered voter. Board members are subject to financial conflict of interest prohibitions as set forth by state law. The Illinois Association of School Boards recommends that a school board member has the ability to work as a member of the team, be willing to take time necessary to become informed about the District’s operations, be able to attend board meetings and workshops, have the desire to serve children and the community and have a strong belief in the value of public education. Interested persons are asked to complete an application form detailing their background and interest.
