Retired Hinsdale CCSD 181 employee Terry Pocius saved $20,931 toward his pension over 15 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.

Over 35 years of retirement, Pocius would collect as much as $1.157 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes DuPage Policy Journal.

Pocius, 60, who currently lives in Clarendon Hills earned $347 in his final year at Hinsdale CCSD 181.

The projection assumes Pocius will receive $17,936 in his first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After three years of retirement, Pocius will have already received $55,439 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of his contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.

According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), 71.8 percent of Hinsdale CCSD 181 students met or exceeded the standards for the "PARCC" exams.
