A political action committee opposing state Rep. Deb Conroy (D-Villa Park) says she is to blame for soaring property taxes driving residents out of DuPage County and Illinois.
An ad by Liberty Principles PAC quotes residents who say DuPage County property tax bills, among the highest in the nation, are forcing them to sell their homes.
It criticizes Conroy for supporting a state income tax hike and allying with House Speaker Michael J. Madigan (D-Chicago), who originally recruited her to run for the statehouse and has largely financed all of her campaigns.
"Conroy's response: she doesn't care if you leave Illinois because your property taxes are double the national average," the ad says. "She only cares about the $1.4 million she's gotten from Boss Madigan."
According to the Illinois State Board of elections, Madigan has given Conroy $1,422,915 since 2012, when she first ran for the 46th district post.
Conroy, Democrat of Villa Park, is a full-time state representative. She is facing Republican Dr. Jay Kinzler, a transplant surgeon from Glen Ellyn.
The 46th District includes parts of Villa Park, Carol Stream, Glendale Heights, Glen Ellyn, Bloomingdale, Addison, Elmhurst and Lombard.
Daniel K. Proft, Chairman of Liberty Principles PAC, is also a principal at Local Government Information Services, which publishes DuPage Policy Journal.
