Football

A GoFundMe page has been set up for former Batavia football player Anthony Thielk, after he recently suffered a fall from a balcony in Minnesota that left him with skull fractures and bleeding from the brain.

According to Patch.com, Thielk is “now fighting for his life” after tumbling at least 25 feet from a balcony while celebrating his 23rd birthday. Thielk starred as linebacker on the 2013 Batavia team and played at least two seasons at Mankato State in Minnesota.

"Please join us in prayer as ‘Anthony's Angels’ and help him fight for a speedy recovery," Thielk family members posted on his Gofundme.com page, adding that they expect his recovery could take several months. "We know that Anthony will pull through this, he has always been a strong and determined young man."

Thielk is now being treated in Rochester after being transferred from a Mayo Clinic Health Systems hospital in Mankato. Just a few days after the accident, Thielk’s GoFundMe page had raised nearly $14,000 and had received donations from nearly 300 people, according to the Daily Herald

As a senior, Thielk set a Batavia school record with 107 solo tackles, including nine quarterback sacks.
