NAPERVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT: Firefighters Battle Structure Fire in 40 Block of Waxwing Avenue

Fire 03

Naperville Fire Department issued the following announcement on Sept. 3.

On September 3, 2018 at 12:04 PM, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call reporting smoke coming from the roof in the 40 block of Waxwing Ave. A General Alarm assignment was dispatched bringing 24 fire personnel to the scene in 10 pieces of fire apparatus. First-in companies arrived on the scene within 6 minutes of the 911 call and reported nothing showing from the two-story single-family residence. Upon further investigation, interior crews discovered a fire in the attic of the home. An aggressive interior attack was initiated and searches of the home were conducted to ensure that all residents had safely evacuated. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of the first arriving units on the scene. Salvage and overhaul operations were started to confirm that all fire had been extinguished.

Naperville Fire Companies were assisted on scene by the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Electric Department. Station coverage was provided by the Bolingbrook Fire Department, the Warrenville Fire Protection District, and the Plainfield Fire Protection District.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but appears to be accidental in nature. The home has been deemed uninhabitable by Naperville Fire Department Personnel. There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians as a result of this fire.
